Mark Webber made the most of a drying track to set the pace in Friday's second practice at Spa, topping Fernando Alonso.
The session began on a rather wet track with drivers lapping in the 2:10s. However, as the dry line began to form, more set times, times tumbled and the P1 slot swapped hands several times.
Webber, though, was the man who finished on top with a 1:50.321 with Alonso 0.140s off the pace. Third place went to Jenson Button, who was almost half a second down on the Aussie.
Report: It was a damp start to the session as Kamui Kobayashi got proceedings underway followed out of the pits by HRT's Daniel Ricciardo. The Sauber driver also posted the first time of the afternoon, a 2:16.279 before he was overhauled by Mark Webber, who was five seconds up. The Aussie continued lapping, lowering the benchmark to a 2:10.524. Fernando Alonso slotted in to second place with early morning pace-setter Michael Schumacher taking fourth.
Bruno Senna ventured out in his repaired Renault, taking third place before improving to second, 1.207s behind Webber. Vitaly Petrov went third. Sebastian Vettel was the next to lead the way as the track continued to dry out, posting a 2:06.398. Jaime Alguersuari followed him up the order and into second place.
Alonso was the next to hit the front before Jenson Button took over. Schumacher moved up to second. Webber and Nico Rosberg both overhauled Button, Alonso returned to the front with a 1:53.924 and Schumacher second as the drivers made their way around the track on the ever-drying line. Rosberg lowered the benchmark with Lewis Hamilton taking second and then Vettel the P1 slot as forecasts warned of more rain in 10 minutes. And then it was Alonso and then Webber who hit the front. And the rain came and the drivers headed back into their garages.
Timo Glock was the first brave soul to venture out on the very wet track and soon found himself slipig, sliding and ultimately going backwards. The final ten minutes saw others also attempt to make their way around the track with Webber runs off the track, Rosberg aquaplaned, Senna ran off the track and Maldonado tip-toed around.
