Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has again reiterated that under fire driver Felipe Massa will be with the Maranello team next year, but warned he will need to improve drastically in the 2012 season.
Massa has managed just 108 points this season and has been far off the pace of his teammate Fernando Alonso who has scored 245 points.
Despite the unsuccessful season for the Brazilian, di Montezemolo says the team will be honouring the contract they have with Massa.
Di Montezemolo told Gazzetta dello Sport: "The drivers? We have a contract with Fernando until 2016 and he's the best driver in the world.
"Massa's contract will run for the whole of next season; he's been with us for quite a few years and even if he didn't have such a great season or much luck, we can't question the ability of a driver who was winning the title three years ago and who has always been fast and competitive."
With one race remaining this season in Brazil this weekend, Massa has one final chance to impress in front of his home crowd and restore some of the previous form he once held.
Di Montezemolo has, however, warned that 2012 will be a make or break season for the 30-year-old.
"Let's hope he can finish the season with a good result in Brazil, we expect great things from him in 2012 and then we'll decide how to proceed. Let's say he'll have to prove himself next season," said di Montezemolo.
