Alonso: There's a possibility of a podium

Fernando Alonso says he'll push hard to reach the podium in Sunday's Italian GP as that would be "good news" after a bad weekend.

Ferrari have struggled throughout their home grand prix weekend, finding themselves well off the pace set by the Red Bulls and McLarens.

According to Alonso, balance, speed and braking stability have all been problems for the Italian stable.

However, the Spaniard showed some signs of improvement in Saturday's qualifying as he claimed fourth place on the Monza grid.

And although he was 0.566s down on pole-sitter Sebastian Vettel, he was only 0.116s off the pace of Lewis Hamilton, who qualified second.

"We didn't find the right balance or speed all weekend," the double World Champ told the BBC.

"Yesterday we struggled with balance and top speed, today we are lacking a bit of braking stability and top speed.

"That was the negative part of the weekend that we are never happy with the car."

But despite a difficult weekend, the Spaniard is hoping to at least get a podium finish in front of Ferrari's faithful tifosi.

"Fourth is a good result, it opens us a possibility of the podium, which is very good news regarding how the weekend went."
