Lewis Hamilton fears McLaren took a step backwards at the European Grand Prix and warns they may struggle at the British GP as well.
A lot was expected from McLaren in Valencia after Jenson Button's sensational victory at the Canadian Grand Prix, but the team failed to deliver and Hamilton had to settle for fourth place while his team-mate was down in sixth.
Hamilton, who didn't finish in Montreal after an error-strewn race, was happy to see the chequered flag in Spain, but admits McLaren have not improved as much as they would've liked to.
"Well, this was a good result compared to the last race [laughing]!" he told BBC Sport after the grand prix.
"We got a bad start - a very, very poor start - and I lost position to the Ferraris. But we weren't as fast as the Ferraris anyway so I'm not sure I could have held them off anyway. I think we've taken a step back this weekend - or maybe the others have gone forward."
Next up on the calendar is McLaren's home race at Silverstone in a fortnight.
Hamilton, though, warns unless they improve on the down-force, then they are unlikely to make up ground.
"I think we're quite a bit down in down-force," he added.
"We haven't made an upgrade on that for several weeks, especially rear down-force, and I think that in the next race we may really struggle again."
