Petrov to test for Pirelli

Vitaly Petrov, who was at the launch of Pirelli's new tyre range on Wednesday, will act as the manufacturer's tester until March.

The Russian lost his drive with Lotus (then Renault) at the end of last season, with Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean joining the team. Petrov has since been linked with a replacement for Caterham's Jarno Trulli despite the Italian insisting that he has a contract in place and having been confirmed on the FIA's grid list.

Petrov's manager,Oksana Kosachenko, has confirmed that the driver will be helping Pirelli with their testing but would not comment on whether or not a move to Caterham was on the cards.

"The cooperation between Vitaly and Pirelli will continue in March, when he will take part in a major Pirelli event in St. Petersburg," Kosachenko told RIA Novosti.

It is believed that this testing with Pirelli would not rule Petrov out of securing a race-seat.
